What Goes Into Our Epoxy Garage Floor Systems

A garage floor is not one product. It’s a system, and the layers matter. We start with a primer that soaks into ground concrete, follow with a pigmented epoxy base coat, broadcast vinyl flake into the wet base until the surface refuses more, then scrape and vacuum the excess before sealing everything under a clear topcoat.

Flake is not just cosmetic. It adds texture underfoot, which matters when a wet car comes in during monsoon season, and it hides the small imperfections every older slab has. It also does not show dust the way a solid color does, so the floor looks clean longer between sweeps.

For the topcoat we usually recommend polyaspartic over standard epoxy in Phoenix. Polyaspartic will not yellow under UV, which matters on any floor that catches afternoon sun through an open door, and it cures fast enough to get you back in the garage sooner.

How We Install an Epoxy Garage Floor

Day One

Grinding and Repair

The slab gets diamond ground to open the concrete profile, which is what gives the epoxy garage floor coating something to grip. Cracks and control joints are cut and filled, oil spots are treated, and the whole floor is vacuumed clean.

Day Two

Base Coat and Flake

The primer and pigmented base go down, flake is broadcast into the wet base, and once it cures we scrape and vacuum the loose material off. This is the day the floor starts looking like a floor.

Day Two or Three

Topcoat and Walkthrough

The clear topcoat seals everything in. We walk the floor with you, go over what to expect in the first couple of weeks, and cover care. Light foot traffic is usually next day and vehicles a few days after, depending on the system and the temperature.
