How We Build a Polyaspartic Garage Floor

The slab gets diamond ground the same as any of our garage floors. There’s no shortcut on prep just because the topcoat is different. Cracks get cut and filled with semi-rigid polyurea, oil spots get treated, and the floor gets vacuumed clean before anything goes down.

From there we typically run a pigmented epoxy base coat with flake broadcast into it, then seal the whole thing under a polyaspartic topcoat instead of a standard epoxy clear coat. You get the color and texture options of flake with a topcoat that won’t amber at the garage door.

For garages that need to be back in service fast, whether that’s a second vehicle bay or a home business, we can also run a full polyaspartic build with no epoxy layer. It costs more but the whole job can be done in a single day.

Is polyaspartic better than epoxy for a garage floor?

Neither is universally better, they solve different problems. Polyaspartic won’t yellow under UV and cures much faster. Epoxy costs less and holds up fine on floors that don’t get direct sun. We’ll tell you honestly which one fits your garage.

How much more does polyaspartic cost than epoxy?

More per coat, since the material itself costs more. Most of our jobs use polyaspartic as a topcoat over an epoxy or flake base rather than a full polyaspartic build, which keeps the cost reasonable while getting the UV stability where it matters, at the surface.

How fast can I use my garage after a polyaspartic coating?

Polyaspartic cures in hours rather than days. Depending on the system, light foot traffic is often possible the same day and vehicle traffic within a day or two, faster than a comparable epoxy job.

Will polyaspartic really not yellow in Arizona heat?

It’s UV stable by chemistry, which is different from epoxy resin. It’s the reason we recommend it specifically for garages with doors that face direct afternoon sun.

Can you add polyaspartic over an existing epoxy floor?
